Instructions

Instructions:

  • In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 ounces bourbon, 1 ounce fresh lemon juice, and ½–¾ ounce simple syrup.
  • Fill the shaker with ice and shake well until chilled, about 15–20 seconds.
  • Strain the mixture into a rocks glass filled with ice.
  • Carefully pour ¾ ounce red wine over the back of a spoon to create a float on top of the cocktail.
  • Add 3 drops bitters on top.
  • Garnish with a dried orange slice or Luxardo cherry.

Notes

Traditionally, a whiskey sour includes egg white for a silky foam, but I prefer my New York Sour without — it keeps the flavor crisp and the layers beautifully distinct.
